A cylindrical glass jar containing a metal frame supporting two metal cones of stainless steel cloth and a metal condenser on top of the jar.

After placing the asphalt sample on both cones and pouring the solvent into the jar, the apparatus is placed on a hot plate.

The solvent boils and drips first into the top cone, then into the lower cone dissolving out the bitumen.

Supplied with 100 filter paper and wire gauze.
