LVDT Local Strain Transducers

GDS LVDT Local Strain Transducers provide small strain measurements of axial and radial strain on the sample.

In routine laboratory tests, it is difficult to accurately determine soil stiffness. Traditionally, the stiffness of a triaxial test specimen is based on external displacement measurements involving a series of extraneous movements.

Actual soil strains can be masked by deviations arising from the compatibility of the loading system and the load measurement system. Such equipment compatibility errors contribute to various sample bedding effects, giving a poor characterization of the stress-strain behavior of the material being tested, particularly in the small strain range.

Therefore, most triaxial tests tend to give soil stiffness values that appear much lower than those derived from field behavior (Jardine, Symes and Burland, 1984).
