The GDS 50kN load frame serves the purpose of a traditional compression/tension loading frame, but is equipped with advanced features added by GDS.
The large OLED display shows the current speed and displacement. The keypad is used for independent programming or with a USB interface for computer control.

Features and Advantages
| Position Control: | Traditional load frames only operate in speed control mode. The GDS v2 load frame can also operate in displacement control mode via the keypad or software. This is useful for performing small strain tests, K0 and creep tests that would be difficult to achieve using only a speed-controlled frame. |
| GDS Safety Surveillance: | The communication load frame is monitored under computer control, so if communication is lost for any reason (e.g., PC crash), the load frame will stop to prevent damage to the sample or load cells. |
| Status Indicator: | The status light provides a visible warning for error conditions. For GDSLAB controlled tests, the status light may indicate that user intervention is required (test completed, pore pressure exceeding cell pressure, etc.). |
| Closed-loop control with transducer: | A load and/or displacement transducer can be added to the load frame to allow it to directly control the load or displacement without software intervention. This provides much greater control accuracy when closing the loop via software. |
