Application:

This device is commonly used to evaluate the adhesion of various coatings. It is mounted on a handle with a high precision machined wheel offering 6 or 11 cutting blades with various spacings. The test is performed by making 2 series of cross-cuts at right angles. The resulting grids are either brushed or cleaned with an adhesive tape. Depending on the coating thickness and relevant spacings, the results can be classified using a standard scale. It is a durable tool with 8 cutting edges and comfortable wooden handles.

When applied to multi-layer systems, the resistance of individual coating layers to separation from each other can be evaluated.

Additionally, all Biuged cross hatch test devices are designed with a rotatable cutter holder; this is very useful for applying equal force when cutting coatings on curved or uneven surfaces and cutting through to the substrate.
