EN 997 Standard and Final Water Volume Test

According to the provisions of this standard, the evaluation method is explained in section 5.7.2.7.

5.7.2.7 Final Water Volume Test

5.7.2.7.1 Test Setup

The test setup must comply with Appendix C. When a reference toilet is used, other test setups with a deviation of ±0.1 L from the final water volume of 6 L may be used.

5.7.2.7.2 Test Materials

Four test samples prepared in accordance with Appendix E are used.

5.7.2.7.3 Test Method

For an adult toilet, four test samples are placed one by one into the toilet, and the water in the cistern is discharged. For a baby toilet, two test samples are used. For a shallow-pan toilet, four test samples are placed as shown in Figure 3.

This test is repeated 9 more times to complete 10 tests. If all test samples are not removed during the washing process, the result is counted as 0 L.

Test Result Evaluation

The test result is considered acceptable if it meets one of the following conditions:

  • In 8 out of 10 tests, 4 test samples are flushed from the toilet, and in each test, the final water volume is ≥2.5 L
  • The arithmetic average of the final water volumes of the 10 tests is ≥2.8 L

If the toilet does not meet these conditions after 10 tests, an additional 20 tests are conducted. These tests are considered acceptable if they meet one of the following conditions:

  • In 16 out of 20 tests, 4 test samples are flushed, and in each test, the final water volume is ≥2.5 L
  • The arithmetic average of the final water volumes of the 20 tests is ≥2.8 L
